Stephen W. Funk is the current President of the Akron Bar Association, effective July 1, 2013.
Mr. Funk is a partner at Roetzel & Andress, where he practices in the areas of business and public law litigation, appellate law, constitutional law, municipal law, and land use and zoning law. He prosecutes and defends complex claims for breach of contract, negligence, fraud, professional malpractice, defamation, director and officer liability, environmental liability and civil rights liability under 42 U.S.C. 1983. Mr. Funk has also prosecuted and defended a large number of constitutional challenges to federal, state and local laws, and has handled many land use and zoning cases arising from administrative appeals under R.C. Chapter 2506.
A certified specialist in Appellate Law, Mr. Funk has previously been the chair of the ABA's Federal Court Committee and is presently a member of the Advisory Group for the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Ohio. He was rated as one of the "Top 100 Ohio Lawyers" in 2013, 2012, and 2011, and one of the "Top 50 Cleveland Lawyers" in 2013 and 2012 by Super Lawyers magazine. He also has been selected numerous times as an "Ohio Super Lawyer."
Mr. Funk received his J.D. cum laude from Harvard Law School, and his undergraduate degree summa cum laude from Miami University, where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa with University Honors. He holds an AV® PreeminentTM rating from the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory, and is licensed to practice law in Ohio, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, Seventh, Ninth and Tenth Circuits, the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of Ohio, and the United States Supreme Court.
